John is a Tax Partner in the Charlotte office of Dixon Hughes Goodman with more than 20 years of tax experience focusing on state & local tax and accounting management and reporting.
Prior to joining the firm, John was a director in the Industry Services Group tax practice of a Big Four firm. There his emphasis was in tax consulting services and public company tax provision audits of Fortune 500 companies in the utility/energy and manufacturing/distribution industries regarding ASC740, federal, and state & local income tax matters including the uncertain tax positions associated with clients’ adoption of FIN48.
Additionally, he served the national team of a Big Four firm, coordinating the federal with the state & local income tax implications of tax optimization strategies, restructurings and initiatives involving apportionment, income sourcing, accounting methods, LLC conversions, and mergers & acquisitions.
John led a state & local tax restructuring team on the implementation of an LLC conversion restructuring for a $4 billion foreign inbound chemicals manufacturer that resulted in annual state income/franchise tax savings of $5 million.
