Hal has more than 25 years of healthcare finance and
reimbursement experience. He has been with Dixon Hughes Goodman since 2000 and works out of the Firm’s Atlanta office. Hal started his career at a CPA firm in Alabama, eventually moving to a position as a hospital CFO. He joined the Firm after spending several years with two large for-profit hospital companies, dealing with complex hospital system financial and Medicare and Medicaid regulatory issues.
Hal's experience includes working with healthcare organizations on cost reports, wage index analyses, Transfer DRG analyses and contractual model applications. Hal's primary focus currently is assisting hospital clients with issues related to Medicare and Medicaid DSH payments, including evaluations of Medicare and Medicaid eligible days and other relevant regulatory matters. Hal is considered a subject matter expert on Medicare and Medicaid DSH issues and is often asked to speak on these topics at various trade association meetings including American Health Lawyers, HFMA's Annual National Institute and Health Financial Systems (HFS) annual user conference.
