LIFE AT DHG

Thoughts from our Leadership Conference Ambassadors

We are gearing up for the 5th annual DHG Leadership Conference May 10-12, and we cannot wait to meet rising stars and future accounting pros from across the country! In honor of the upcoming event, and to help give attendees an idea of what to expect, we reached out to our 2016 Leadership Conference Ambassadors for thoughts on their experience last year. Our Ambassadors are 2nd year attendees who have accepted an internship with DHG and who will be back this year to help us make the event as FUN and as informational as possible for everyone in attendance.

What are you most looking forward to for the 2016 Leadership Conference? I look forward to meeting new scholars and interacting with the executives of the firm. I plan to spread some knowledge about the company and my experience thus far as a former conference attendee and Student Ambassador at Hampton University.

How has the Leadership Conference impacted your leadership skills? The conference has impacted my leadership skills tremendously. Communication is a very important skill that a leader should have and I can say that I have stayed connected with a lot of DHG executives since the conference.

What are you most looking forward to for the 2016 Leadership Conference? I'm most looking forward to connecting with the new Leadership Conference participants.  I made so many friends and great memories last year, and I cannot wait to interact with them as they experience the magic of the 2016 Leadership Conference!

How has the Leadership Conference impacted your leadership skills? The Leadership Conference has made me recognize more of the leadership traits within myself that I didn't know I possessed.  I've taken so many informative tools from the Leadership Conference and applied them throughout my senior year, most notably as president of the JSU Accounting Society.

Lauren Young Name: Lauren Young

School: West Virginia University

Graduation Year: 2017

What are you most looking forward to for the 2016 Leadership Conference? I am most looking forward to getting to meet all the other students and DHG staff that will be in attendance at the Leadership Conference. I met so many amazing people last year and that really helped me when making my decision to accept an internship with DHG. The culture of DHG is unlike any other I have experienced before. DHG employees are always so welcoming, approachable, and easy to talk to. I think it speaks volumes about the firm that as a sophomore attendee, I was able to have a one-on-one conversation with the CEO, Matt Snow.

How has the Leadership Conference impacted your leadership skills? One great thing about the Leadership Conference is that you get to hear from all different kinds of leaders. Last year, we heard from the CEO of the firm but we also got to hear from partners and first-year employees at DHG. This taught me that leadership is important at every level of your career and life. Just because you aren’t the CEO of a company doesn’t mean that you won’t be serving in a leadership position and need to know effective strategies to accomplish goals.

Justin Moore Name: Justin Moore

School: High Point University

Graduation Year: 2016

What are you most looking forward to for the 2016 Leadership Conference? I am most looking forward to having the opportunity to help create an environment that portrays the DHG culture.  It was apparent to me from the moment I got to Charleston last year that there were a lot of individuals involved, working to make sure myself and other students had a great experience, and I am excited to be a part of that this year.

How has the Leadership Conference impacted your leadership skills? The biggest takeaway I had from the Leadership Conference was being intentional about communication amongst peers.  The Leadership Conference impacted me a lot in my ability to step out of my comfort zone in an environment where I may not know many people.

Graduation Year: 2016

What are you most looking forward to for the 2016 Leadership Conference? I am so excited to meet all of the students chosen to attend this year's conference! Last year, I was able to get to know a ton of really great people and create strong connections with many of them. It'll be great to be able to hang out with them and answer any questions they may have about anything.

How has the Leadership Conference impacted your leadership skills? The 2015 Leadership Conference enabled me to step outside of my comfort zone and gave me the opportunity to learn from those around me. There are so many great speakers at the DHG Leadership Conference that help you see leadership in a whole new way. My big take away from the 2015 Leadership Conference was that the key to being a great leader is to never stop learning from those around you.
