Luis Guevara is a Marketing Technology Manager who began his career as an intern at DHG. Luis shares his career journey, which began at DHG, and what ultimately led him back home to DHG.
What is your work history at DHG, and how did you end up back at DHG?
That’s a big story! I started at DHG back in the summer of 2014 as a marketing intern. We were going through a large, new brand project, and the two-month internship turned into an eight-month internship. In the end, DHG offered me a full-time job as a general marketing assistant.
When we had a change of leadership, I shared with the new leader a little bit about my background – that I went to school for math and physics. He questioned how I ended up working at an accounting firm in the marketing team with my background and subsequently introduced me to CRM and data analytics. After moving to that team, I worked my way up to a managerial position, leading our lead generations team overseeing CRM and digital marketing.
After almost six years at DHG, another job opportunity arose and I decided to leave DHG. I stayed in close contact with my previous manager at DHG, where I had monthly calls with him and he shared with me that DHG was looking for a marketing technology manager. After a few more conversations, the next thing I knew I was back at the DHG! This role is the perfect fit for my skill set.
What made you decide to return to DHG, and what did you miss most about the firm?
The reason I decided to come back is also what I missed most at DHG, which at the very core was the people. I truly do think that our firm has an amazing culture. It honestly felt like a homecoming to me where I had so many people reaching out, being extremely kind, and sharing how happy they were to have me back. It makes you feel as if you are part of something bigger than just work. Additionally, the specific role that I came back for is exactly what I want to be doing. I think having that time away from DHG helped me better understand how to better contribute to the firm.
How has DHG helped you build a valuable career?
I am better because DHG helped signal a career path for me that I did not know even existed. The firm’s culture creates opportunities to learn new things and grow new skill sets, which is a huge plus at DHG. It’s great having keen and growth-oriented leaders who recognize your passions and talents to grow a career; these leaders helped me get to where I am now.
What advice would you give someone considering leaving DHG?
It was a tough decision to leave. I will tell them that there are a lot of benefits here that we can take for granted. Culture and flexibility are two benefits that DHG has excelled in. I recently went through a family emergency which caused me to have a weird schedule. My managers and leaders were compassionate and allowed me to have that flexibility needed to support my family. The DHG Anywhere program allows me to bring my knowledge and expertise to different projects without being tethered to one specific place.
