Engage 2016

Each year I look forward to connecting with our partners, principals and directors at our annual partner meeting. It is such a meaningful time for DHG as we reflect on the year behind us and establish areas of focus for the coming year. It is a time to reconnect with our mission, strategy and values as we move toward becoming the firm of the future.

The theme of our meeting was Engage. Not only does this theme touch on being engaged with DHG, it also ties into our people strategy and our focus on team member engagement. Being engaged means that everyone at DHG should be seated at the table, with their sleeves rolled up, ready to dive in and pursue the mission of the firm and help us become the firm of the future.

One DHG

At Engage 2016 we focused on our journey to becoming the firm of the future, and one of the greatest steps in advancing forward is to deepen our commitment to being One Firm – One Team – One DHG. Our firm has grown and prospered by attracting and developing superior talent, and our whole is greater than the sum of its parts when we function as One Team as opposed to an assimilation of several teams. At Engage 2016 the partners re-committed to this journey and shared ideas and views on how we can further pursue this mindset in all that we do.

Tools to Lead Us Into the Future

Three key sub-themes, Energy, Urgency and Innovation, served as our daily roadmap for Engage, all reflective of what we need to become the firm of the future. Energy was the starting point for us on the first day as it is the essential building block for a meaningful career and personal life. Energy management enables us to perform at a high level for DHG and yet still have the energy we need to cover the other broader missions in our lives, such as our families and our hobbies outside of our career. Read more about this concept in my recent blog post about our Energy for Life program.

Day two centered on Urgency, acknowledging the fact that moving ahead requires change, and the quicker and more receptive we are to change, the faster we can become that firm of the future. We carried the theme of Urgency over as we finished the day focusing on our People and our Clients. We closed the meeting by focusing on our core value of Innovation. The firm of the future is an innovative firm. We explored what it means to be innovative and how we will incorporate it into our individual practices and the execution of the DHG strategy.

Celebrating Valuable Careers

The partner meeting is the perfect occasion to celebrate and recognize our new partners - those who will play a large role in guiding us to our next chapters. Becoming a partner is such a pivotal event for not just the individual but also for the firm. Promoting new partners is the culmination of our efforts over many years in executing our strategy to build valuable careers with our people. It is such an important career milestone and recognizing these new partners is truly a highlight of the meeting.

We cannot look ahead to the future without thinking about those who have played such a large role in getting us to where we are today. I look forward to recognizing our retiring partners each year as it allows us to reflect on the many contributions that they have made to the firm and our success. We also remind them that they will always be part of our DHG family.

Our Shared Commitment

I left Orlando feeling confident that our partners, principals and directors are “all in.” They are motivated about the firm of the future and their role in moving us forward. We are One Firm with common goals and a common purpose. I am thankful to have had three days with our partner team where we were fully engaged and focused on energy, urgency and innovation (with some fun mixed in too). I know now more than ever that great things lie ahead for us as we evolve to be the firm of the future.
