Count the Cans: Part Two

The calculations are in and we have great reason to celebrate: DHG has donated 270,875 pounds of food and given more than 1,400 service hours to our local food banks, food kitchens and other community hunger relief programs.  This brings our four year giving total to 3,202,350 pounds!  Congratulations to the Atlanta office and South region for winning the 2015 food drive competition. Job well done!

Help During a Time of Great Need
You may be curious as to why we hold a food drive during the summer months instead of during the holiday season, traditionally when most food drives take place. At DHG, we choose the beginning of June to stock our local food pantries because in general, summer months are very hard for food banks to maintain their food supply. People are on vacations and giving back is not as much in the forefront of their minds as it might be in other months.  Additionally, children who typically rely on school breakfasts and lunches are out of school, forcing parents to find alternative sources for food.  We focus our food drive on child-friendly, high nutritional food items, specifically tuna and fruit.  This year we collected 59,055 cans of fruit and 33,527 cans of tuna.

Partnering with Clients
 A significant highlight this year includes partnerships with many of our clients.  This is a great way to build team spirit and work together for a worthy cause. There is fierce competition to collect the most food and many of our offices have gotten very creative, partnering with clients such as grocery store chains.  I’ve heard of pallets of tuna being delivered from warehouses straight to our food banks in support of DHG’s food drive.

Each year I continue to be blown away by our collections and truly humbled by the outpouring of support from our partners and professionals. This year is no exception.  Thank you DHG, our clients and our communities for making this year’s food drive a tremendous success!
