Charlotte, N.C., June 4, 2015 –
The PhD Project, an award-winning program whose goal is to create diversity in business
leadership, has named Kent Satterfield, Dixon Hughes Goodman’s Chief Operating
Officer, as its new Chair. The PhD Project, a nonprofit organization, recruits
minority professionals from business into doctoral programs in all business
disciplines.
“The PhD Project is a
program that has been important to DHG for many years,” said Matt Snow, Dixon Hughes Goodman’s Chief Executive Officer.
“Kent, in particular, has been an incredible advocate for The PhD Project and
its efforts to diversify the workforce. We are proud to see him step into this leadership
role and we know that his unwavering passion for this organization will fuel
great success.”
Serving
as Chair for the PhD Project is a natural fit for Kent’s skillset as a leader
and his passion for diversity. As Chief Operating Officer at DHG, Kent oversees
operations within the firm while serving as mentor and trusted advisor to DHG’s
partners and professionals. He is a member of DHG’s Inclusion and Diversity
Council and its Executive Committee, and is an advocate of the firm’s core
values and philanthropic efforts.
Since its
inception, The PhD Project has been responsible for contributing to the
increase in the number of minority business professors from 294 to 1,274. Further,
307 minorities are currently enrolled in doctoral programs, and will take a
place at the front of the classroom over the next few years. The Project
attacks the root cause of minority under-representation in corporate jobs:
historically, very few minority college students study business as an entrée to
a corporate career. Diversifying the faculty attracts more minorities to study
business and better prepares all students to function in a diverse workforce.
